....It's been a frantic few months, a book of crochet patterns to finish, a wonderfully busy cookery school and a not so wonderfully poorly mum. I think the book is nearing completion and yesterday we received the truly warming news that mum's operation was a success and the cancer hasn't spread. So, now, with a little time for reflection, I can finally enjoy the week before Christmas and look forward to spending time with Pipi and Dante. The tree went up last weekend, I carefully unwrapped my decorations and there's one I thought would be good to share....
...all of us girls at the Corfe Castle Wednesday 'Wool Group' are completely in awe of Lena and her crochet talent. Each year we wait with huge anticipation for her selection of crocheted angels and bells, which she sells to raise money for charity. This is one from this year, the others that I have collected over the years are strung across my mantlepiece. They are so heavenly, and I always wonder at their construction. I think I will wait until next year though to try one myself - my mind is full of crochet patterns at the moment, I am looking forward to a little time off!
And, if Lena's talent wasn't enough, another of the girls at the group not only works wonders with yarn, she is also a talented ceramic artist. I treated myself to an early Christmas present....
Here is Rachel's white flower ring, sitting alongside my nana's ring. It was Connie, my Nan, who taught me to knit as a child and it is her memory which has been a huge comfort to me through this difficult time. She gave me this ring for my 18th birthday; it is garnet, my birth stone. If I need a bit of extra strength I will slip it on. And can I just say a huge 'thank you' to all friends and family who have been so supportive recently, I love you all very much, you know exactly who you are!
And so, I'm sitting listening to Michael Buble singing Christmas songs, snipping away at tissue paper pom-poms, sucking on mint humbugs and decorating the cookery school (Martha Stewart has a lot to answer for!).
All I need now is an open fire, Christmas wrapping paper, a pile of pressies and a large glass of prosecco! x
